ESP – Real Madrid alone at the top after win at Caja Laboral
MADRID (ACB) - Real Madrid edged Caja Laboral, Regal Barcelona thrashed DKV Joventut and Power Electronics Valencia won a fifth game in a row in Spanish ACB action over the weekend.

Madrid's Felipe Reyes had 21 points and fellow Spain international Carlos Suarez contributed 15 with a team-high seven rebounds in a 72-67 win in Vitoria at Caja Laboral.

Ettore Messina's side trailed by a point heading into the last quarter but outscored Caja Laboral 23-17 in the frame.

They are now in sole possession of first place at 10-2 – a game clear of Regal Barcelona (9-3) and two ahead of Caja Laboral (8-4).

"We deserved to win," said Messina, whose team prevailed in front of a boisterous crowd numbering 9,700 spectators – most of them fans of Caja Laboral.

"We played well on both ends of the floor.

"Players made the right adjustments to come out on top.

"We only had trouble getting good looks in the first half, but we managed to get it together in the second.

We played clean basketball, found open lanes and scored easily."

Barca bounced back from their loss at Lietuvos Rytas in the Euroleague by routing DKV, 83-63.

Leading 36-28 at half-time, Barcelona lowered the boom in the third quarter when they outscored DKV 23-9.

Playing before a loud 8,900-strong crowd at Malaga, Valencia trailed in the fourth quarter but prevailed, 70-64.

Fresh off their big win at Armani Jeans Milano that lifted them to fourth place in Euroleague Group D, Omar Cook knotted the game at 58-58 for Valencia with a basket and then the Montenegro international passed to teammate Victor Claver who popped a three-pointer.

Valencia, whose fortunes have changed dramatically since the appointment of Svetislav Pesic as coach in early November, held on with Rafa Martinez's 22 points leading the way.

Once 1-6, Valencia have improved to 6-6 and are eighth in the ACB.

They will attempt to win at home against Union Olimpija this week to seal a place in the Euroleague Top 16.

Last-place Meridiano Alicante got two game winning free-throws with five seconds left from Justin Doellman in a 53-52 triumph at Gran Canaria 2014.

Alicante are still in the basement but with three wins and nine defeats.

Second-bottom Granada (also 3-9) fell 75-68 at home to Lagun Aro GBC, who are fourth in the league at 7-5 - the same record as DKV and Fuenlabrada.

Fuenlabrada won 81-76 at home over Bizkaia Bilbao Basket (6-6), who are in seventh place.

Blancos de Rueda Valladolid (6-6) lost 72-68 at CAI Zaragoza (5-7) and are in ninth place.

Cajasol Sevilla (6-6) are 10th following a 52-48 triumph over Manresa (4-8).

Menorca (4-8), who played so well at Valencia last week but suffered a narrow defeat, fellow 74-65 at home to Asefa Estudiantes despite getting 25 points and nine rebounds from Ivan Radenovic.
