KAUNAS (LKL/Euroleague) - A terrific year for Mantas Kalnietis has just gotten better with the Zalgiris and Lithuania national team point guard becoming a father for the first time early Wednesday morning.
Kalnietis and his wife are the proud parents of daughter Mingaile.
"We wish that the daughter grows up healthy, strong and provides a lot of happiness and joyful moments," Zalgiris said on their website.
Kalnietis helped fire Lithuania to a surprising bronze medal at the FIBA World Championship in Istanbul this summer and has returned to Zalgiris where he and his teammates have won all nine of their games in the LKL and four of seven in Euroleague Group A.
Zalgiris are facing a tough road game on Thursday in Poland when they go up against Asseco Prokom, a team that has won two straight since losing its first five.
Word of the baby spread like wildfire in Kaunas with Kalnietis' Lithuania and Zalgiris teammate Martynas Pocius tweeting about the new arrival.
Pocius said on his LTUmarty account: "Congrats to Mantas Kalnietis on becoming a father! That's great news this morning!"
